We know that paint can do many a thing for a house or building, like create a vibrant atmosphere, but new findings suggest that paint can do even more.
What if paint could generate electricity or cool your house down? Researchers at the Korea Institute of Science and Technology have developed thermoelectric (TE) paint that will be able to generate electricity. And similarly, researchers from Ngee Ann Polytechnic in China have developed X-Cool Paints, a paint that bounces solar light away from painted surfaces.
The Technology
The TE paint is engineered to convert waste heat (heat that is given off naturally by buildings, ships, and cars) into usable electricity. This could mean that especially in the Houston heat, painting the exterior of a building with the thermoelectric paint could generate electric energy and power for the building.
On the other hand, by applying the anti-solar paint to the exterior of a building, it can reduce interior temperatures by 41? and reduce energy usage. X-Cool Paints is non-toxic, weathering free, and fire resistant. Alternative uses include painting piping (to prevent any overwhelming heat or flame), roofing (to prevent heat penetration), metal surfaces (to prevent rust), and underground tunneling (to prevent mildew and immense heat).
What This Means
In Houston, where one day it?s a cool 75? and another it?s a blazing 95? with humidity, you could essentially reduce your AC bill and keep your home or building much cooler. Thermoelectric paint would be able to generate your AC for you, and the anti-solar paint could reflect heat off, so you don?t have to worry about AC at all.
What You Can Do
Unfortunately, it would take years before these paints reach the consumer market and be available at our stores, but Pro Painters? current paint selection is still as magical. Even when thermoelectric paint and X-Cool Paint hit the market, there?s no doubt that we?ll still be the leader in workmanship and customer satisfaction in Houston. In the meantime, you can save time and energy, and leave the Houston residential painting or Houston commercial painting to us. Whether it?s painting your living room to match your new mood, or painting an entire 320,000 square foot retail center of your new business, we make sure to do the job right, the first time.
