The Technology
Thermoelectric paint is engineered to convert waste heat (heat that is given off naturally by buildings, vehicles, and equipment) into usable electricity. This means that especially in the Houston heat, painting the exterior of a building with thermoelectric paint could generate electrical energy and power for the structure.
On the other hand, applying anti-solar paint to the exterior of a building can reduce interior temperatures by up to 5°C (9°F) and lower energy usage. X-Cool Paint is non-toxic, weather-resistant, and fire-resistant. Alternative uses include painting piping (to prevent heat penetration or flammability), roofing (to reflect sunlight), metal surfaces (to prevent rust), and underground structures (to mitigate heat and humidity).
